Charles' Figgy Mittens

Say hello to Charles's Figgy Man Mittens.

These handsome mittens were made for my dear friend Charles for his birthday, last winter hah. He has just now gotten around to unpacking his new apartment and found the time to snap a few photos of them, for me to share here! I always have so much trouble finding patterns that I feel are truly masculine with out being overly simple. A good pattern for a sturdy, to the point, but also beautiful man-ccessory is the one I used for these mittens, Jane Richmond's Red is Best

The fiber is none other than the always beloved, Madelinetosh Vintage, in the Fig color way. Isn't it so handsome? I think that is what really takes them over the top.

For some reason I find that most men love those flip top mittens. I suppose maybe because you don't have to fiddle with them too much, or maybe because they serve as a two in one type thing. I will probably have to start planning out a few more pairs for Christmas (?!?!) and winter birthdays. Come to think of it, I should probably just keep a few made and on hand to give away for last minutes gifts, since I haven't ventured into socks just yet. (If you have a favorite sock pattern please share it with me!)

Thanks for reading!

    1. We should! Im not into the super fancy socks...just something plain and simple. I saw a pattern on our beloved purl bee in TML hah we should do those for our husbands! http://www.purlbee.com/the-purl-bee/2011/11/13/whits-knits-homespun-boot-socks.html. It says you need two skeins for one pair, but I think that is just because you need the extra skein for the contrast color, in that case. We could each buy one skien and share a little but of it for the others contrast?

  2. No sock patterns, especially since I crochet, ;) but I love these mittens. I really want to attempt some fingerless gloves this winter. We shall see. Beautiful job.

    1. Crochet is so foreign to me! I have only done a little crochet edge finishing on a few baby sweaters but other than that, Its really confusing to me!

  3. Holy crap, I ADORE these mittens. I feel extremely inspired to learn to knit (I know like 3 stitches haha) just to make these. I think they are definitely masculine looking. What level of difficult are these?

You did a WONDERFUL job here. I can't wait to see all of the other beautiful projects you do.

    1. Lesley,

knitting is really only two stitches, and once you learn and master them, you can do anything!!! These mittens are realllyyyy easy. A great first "in the round" project. They are done on double point needles (DPNS in knitting lingo) and that sounds really scary but once you get the concept youll want to do everything you can in the round. Plus, Jane Richmond has really simple, clear patterns that are easy to read and follow, I highly recomend them. She also has a similar pair done in a heavy weight (bulkier yarn and bigger needles) that might be easier to do for a newbie to knitting. Im so glad you are inspired! Knitting is seriously such a passion of mine, so to hear someone else is interested makes me really happy!
